Don Corr
Don Corr is entering his 20th year as the Head Coach of the Jonesboro High Baseball Program. His teams have been very competitive. In twenty years of coaching at Jonesboro High School, Coach Corr's team has compiled a 287-216 won-lost record.
Coach Corr has been honored as Metro Atlanta Coach of the Year in 1988 by the Atlanta Braves 400 Club. He was selected to be Head Coach of the Georgia Dugout East all-stars in 1988 and 1997. He is on the Team Georgia Board of Directors.
Coach Corr is a member of the Georgia Dugout Club, American Baseball Coaches Association, and National High School Baseball Coaches Association. He also serves as an Associate Scout for the Atlanta Braves Major League Baseball Club.
Corr, a guidance counselor, taught for one year at Forest Park Junior High while serving as Assistant Baseball Coach for Forest Park High School. He taught in the mathematics department at Jonesboro High School instructing in Algebra for thirteen years. He was a counselor for three years at McGarrah Elementary School. He is presently in his fourth year back at Jonesboro High School as a Guidance Counselor.
Coach Corr was a 7 time letterman in basketball and baseball at Saint Stanislaus College Preparatory School, a 2 year letterman in baseball at Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College, and a 1 year letterman at the University of Southern Mississippi in baseball. He was named all conference in baseball at Saint Stanislaus his junior and senior years. While attending the University of Southern Mississippi, he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity.
Coach Corr has an undergraduate degree in Athletic Administration and Coaching from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Masters Degree in Education from The State University of West Georgia. He recently received his Specialist Degree in Education with an emphasis in School Administration at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee.
Coach Corr, a Bay St. Louis, Mississippi native, is the oldest of six children. His father, Donald Sr. passed away while Don was playing junior college baseball. His mother, Janet Corr, still resides in Bay St. Louis. Both parents were very important parts of Don's athletic career.
Coach Corr is married to a very wonderful and supportive wife, the former Tena Rawls of Collins, Mississippi. They have an
eleven-year-old daughter, Victoria Laine, who attends Stockbridge Middle School.
Gordon Swordsma
Coach Gordon Swordsma enters his 6th season with the Cardinal Baseball
program. Gordon's responsibilities involve coaching the catchers and helping
with the JV and Varsity programs. This baseball season is his 10th year of coaching baseball. The past
5 years Gordon has worked baseball camps at Georgia Tech. Gordon currently teaches Physical Education at
Jackson Elementary. Gordon recently received his
Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University. He received his National
Certification as a teacher. Gordon enjoys playing golf and spending time with his wife, Raelene.
Chuck Whitley
Coach Chuck Whitley enters his 7th season with the Cardinal Baseball program.
Chuck's responsibilities involve coaching the pitchers in the program. This baseball season is the
17th year of coaching baseball. The past 8 years Chuck has worked baseball camps at Georgia Tech.
He is a graduate of Mercer University of Atlanta. Chuck currently teaches
Science at Jonesboro High School. Chuck enjoys outdoor activities, reading
sci-fi and fiction, and movies. Chuck and his wife Ann have two children Bud and
Jackson.
Daryl Cowins
Coach Darryl Cowins is in his third season with the Cardinals. He will serve as
a varsity assistant coach in charge or outfielders. He will also be the Junior
Varsity Head Coach. His duties with the varsity will be hitting and
outfielders. Darryl is currently teaching Physical Education at Kemp Elementary
School.
Steve Loureiro
Coach Steve Loureiro is in his second season with the Cardinals. He will
serve as a varsity assistant coach in charge or outfielders. His duties with the varsity will be hitting and
outfielders. Steve played baseball for 4 years at Oglethorpe University.
After completing his eligibility he work as a graduate assistant with the
baseball program for three years. He is a graduate of Oglethorpe University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and
a Masters in Business Administration. Steve is currently teaching World
History at Jonesboro High School.
Ron Bernard
Trainer Ron Bernard of the Hughston Clinic, P.C., has been the Head Athletic Trainer at JHS since 1992. His credentials include: certified athletic trainer, licensed athletic trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist. He is a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, Tennessee and East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. He majored in athletic training/physical education serving as a student trainer under Jerry Robertson in the Buccaneer Athletic department. Ron has worked with athletes on the professional, collegiate and high school levels. He has served as athletic trainer for the 1996 Olympic Games, the ATP Tennis tour, and several GHSA All Star competitions.
